Heartwood Wilderness and Web of Life join to bring retreat participants invaluable intuitive and active self-reliance skills in a time when sustainability depends on the balance of these attributes:

Heartwood Founder, Denise E. Ashman has been teaching Wilderness Skills/Environmental Education for 26 years. She specializes in Primitive/Paleolithic skills and has studied with Indigenous Peoples, anthropologists, and archeologists throughout the US and abroad. Ashman is a Certified Wilderness First Responder, Training Officer for Niagara Frontier Search & Rescue, and is New York State Certified in Ropes Rescue and Emergency Management. She is the author of two books.

Web of Life teacher, Sue Hirschberger has traveled in Australia, learning from the Indigenous Peoples of Northern Territory, and teachers of Lakota and Haudenosaunee traditions in the US, acknowledging deep and important understandings still held about balance and reciprocity with our planet and each other. Sue holds a master's degree in education, and 17 years in leadership and facilitation. She has certification as a Wisdom Keeper for Don Miguel Ruiz's Four Agreements, and facilitates Drumming Journeywork, which is an ancient and universal technique for focalizing the mind for intentional inner work. She has had a private practice in the United States since the early '90's.
